Description
A fantastic opportunity to learn about Wales, the two days will look at:
Land of song, Land of Dragon Myths & legends, Land of Saints & Chapel culture, Land of My Fathers Methodist revival & Industrial heritage.
Welsh language, place names, basic greetings.
This course will not help you to become fluent in Welsh but it will let you into some Welsh gems such as the one below:
William Price- A Wacky Welsh Victorian
Born in Monmouthshire
Trained as a doctor
Became medical advisor to the Crawshay family who owned the ironworks at Merthyr and Treforest
Got involved in the Chartist movement
Fled to France dressed as a woman
Became convinced that an ancient prophecy predicted that he would liberate his country from English rule
Tried reviving what he believed to be the religion of the ancient druids
On his 81st birthday, married a woman of 21
Named their son Iesu Grist – he died aged only 5 months
Price was tried for attempting to cremate his son, but found not guilty, paving the way for the Cremation Act of 1902.
Day one is on 26th November at The Brecon Beacons National Park Visitor Centre, Libanus.
Day two is on 3rd December at Crickhowell Resource & Information Centre.
This two day free course is available to those who have already completed the three day Brecon Beacons National Park Ambassador course.
