We're Going on a Bear Hunt
Sat 5 August 2017, 10:00 – 17:00 BST
We’re going on a bear hunt.
We’re going to find a big one.
We’re not scared!
From the charity that brought you The Gruffalo Adventure, come with Hft on a Bear Hunt with a twist. Based on the popular traditional poem We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, this unique sponsored event will take children on a magical adventure through water, mud, paint and snow. It will be wet. It will be messy. It WILL be fun!
Join Hft for a sponsored Bear Hunt with a difference. Working in groups, children will work together to navigate their way through a range of obstacles, including hay bales, water, mud, snow and paint, finishing up at the entrance to a deep, dark cave. Will they be brave enough to find out what’s inside?!
After completing their Bear Hunt, there’ll be time to get changed into some clean, dry clothes awnd enjoy a snack and a drink. Children can then proceed to the next stage of the adventure; building their very own teddy bear to take home with them*. Their teddies are also invited to join the fun by doing a teddy parachute jump or similar*!
Finally, you and your children are invited to head over to our Teddy Bear’s Picnic; a traditional village fair packed full of fun, games and entertainment for all the family*! Enjoy rare animal handling experiences with RepTylers Mobile Zoo, burn off some energy on our bouncy castle, try your luck at our traditional fairground games or just relax with a drink and a bite to eat...

Do I have to book in advance?
We recommend that you pre-book your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. We're Going on a Bear Hunt is available for one day only at this location and, based on previous events, we expect it to be hugely popular with families. Although there may be a limited number of tickets available for walk-up slots on the day, we cannot guarantee this and/or the time slot you require.
Is this event suitable for children with disabilities?
Yes! Accessible routes will be available through the We're Going on a Bear Hunt obstacle course, however please note that wheelchairs (if used) are lilkely to become muddy, wet and painty - much like the children themselves! Please contact us in advance to let us know about the particular needs of your child so that we can meet these needs as fully as possible on the day.
Is this event suitable for children under three?
The We're Going on a Bear Hunt obstacle course is primarily aimed at children aged three and over; however we recognise that all children are different. If you feel your two-year-old could manage the course (and/or you are happy to get very wet/muddy/painty supporting them through it!) you are welcome to purchase a ticket for them at your discretion.
Younger siblings who are accompanying a paying child are welcome to cheer them from the sidelines with you and meet the bear free of charge. You can pay for them to do any other activities (build a teddy, RepTylers animal handling etc) on the day.
My child's sibling doesn't want to do the Bear Hunt. Do they still need a ticket?
Any child (aged 3 or above) who is accompanying a paying child but who does not wish to take part in the challenge event is welcome to join us at the Teddy Bear's Picnic for just £3. Please select the correct number of spectator tickets at checkout.
Can my under-three/non-participating sibling take part in the build-a-teddy event/other attractions on the day?
Yes, children who wish to build a teddy, visit RepTylers Mobile Zoo or take part in any other attractions without going on the Bear Hunt will be able to pay to do so on the day.
How can I book the time slot I want?
When you book your tickets, you will be asked first to select the number of tickets that you wish to buy. When you have selected the number of tickets, you will proceed to our booking page where you will have the opportunity to choose your preferred time slot (within two-hour blocks). We will contact you nearer the time to confirm your exact start time..
How long is the Bear Hunt experience likely to last?
The whole We're Going on a Bear Hunt experience, including the challenge event, meet and greet with the Hft bear and (if appropriate) build-a-teddy, is likely to last around an hour. We recommend arriving at least 5-10 minutes prior to your specified time slot to allow time for check in. Make sure you leave plenty of time before or after your walk to explore the many attractions at the Teddy Bear's Picnic.
Will my child need any special equipment?
We reccommend that children come along in wellies and old clothes that you don't mind getting wet, dirty or stained. Changing stations will be available so please bring along a change of clothes (and maybe a small towel!). If the weather is hot, please remember a sun hat and plenty of suncream.
Does my child have to raise sponsorship money?
The money you have paid for your child's ticket covers the event running costs, so you can be sure that the money your child raises in sponsorship will go directly to help people with learning disabilities live the lives they really choose. We have suggested a sponsorship target of £25 per child, and will offer plenty of ideas to help them reach this target. However, we do understand that it may not always be possible for you to support your child in raising sponsorship money and, if you prefer, you can simply make a donation toward their sponsorship target when you buy their tickets.
Prizes will be awarded to the children raising the most sponsorship (closing date two weeks from the date of the event).
The £25 sponsorship target is a suggested target only and no child will be refused entry or treated differently if they do not reach this target or if they choose not to fundraise.
Can adults attend without children?
We regret that adults attending without children will not be admitted to the Bear Hunt event. However, we will be running dedicated sessions for adults with learning disabilities; for information about these sessions, please contact us.
Do I have to accompany my child(ren)?
Yes. All children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event and this adult will be fully responsible for the child(ren) in their care. However, spectator areas and cheering points will be available for parents/carers who do not actually wish to take part in the challenge event itself! Adult tickets are just £3pp.
Is car parking available at the event?
Yes, limited parking is available. If you are coming as part of a group, please show consideration for other guests and car share where possible.
What's the refund policy?
As this is a charity event, we regret that we cannot issue refunds unless we are able to resell your ticket. If the event is cancelled for any reason, full refunds will be issued to all ticket holders.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No. Just visit the registration desk with your child(ren)'s name and start time and we'll book you in.
Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?
It is important that we have the correct names and ages of all children who will be taking part in the event. If you wish to notify us of any changes to your booking, simply email firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll sort that out for you.
