Event description

Description

We’re going on a bear hunt. We’re going to find a big one. We’re not scared!

Hft's popular We're Going on a Bear Hunt event comes to South Oxfordshire!

Join us on 14 September for a Bear Hunt with a twist. It will be wet. It will be messy. It WILL be fun!

Based on the popular children's poem, join Hft for a sponsored Bear Hunt with a difference. Enjoy a day of messy fun with your children as you navigate your way through a range of Bear Hunt themed obstacles in our beautiful grounds; including water, slime pits, mud, snow, paint and live animal handling - finishing up at the entrance to a deep, dark cave. Will your family be brave enough to find out who’s inside?!

Choose from a basic Explorer Ticket that just gets you into the bear hunt itself, or save money with our all-inclusive Adventurer ticket (available only in advance) that includes the bear hunt, a special commemorative goody bag, a fabulous slime workshop and a build-a-teddy experience where your littlle adventurers can make their own teddy bear to take home with them. One 8" bear is included in the price, optional extras will be available to buy on the day.

Finally, you and your children are invited to head over to our fun zone; a traditional village fair packed full of fun and games for all the family (additional charges may apply)!

Please note that this is a charity event and we encourage children to enjoy fundraising for us in advance. However, no child will be treated differently if they choose not to do this.

FAQs

Do I have to book in advance? We recommend that you pre-book your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. We're Going on a Bear Hunt is available for one day only at this location and, based on previous events, we expect it to be hugely popular with families. Although there may be a limited number of tickets available on the day, we cannot guarantee this.

Is this event suitable for children with disabilities? Yes! Accessible routes will be available through the We're Going on a Bear Hunt assault course, however please note that wheelchairs (if used) are lilkely to become muddy, wet and painty - much like the children themselves! Please contact us in advance to let us know about the particular needs of your child so that we can meet these needs as fully as possible on the day.

Is this event suitable for children under two? The We're Going on a Bear Hunt obstacle course is primarily aimed at children aged two and over; however we recognise that all children are different. If you feel your under two-year-old could manage the course (and/or you are happy to get very wet/muddy/painty supporting them through it!) you are welcome to purchase a ticket for them at your discretion. Under twos who are accompanying a paying child, and who you do not feel would wish to take part, are welcome to cheer them from the sidelines with you and meet the bear free of charge. You can pay for them to do any other activities (build a teddy, slime workshop etc) on the day.

My child's sibling doesn't want to do the Bear Hunt. Do they still need a ticket? Any child (aged 2 or above) who is accompanying a paying child but who does not wish to take part in the challenge event is welcome to come along and spectate for just £3. Please select the correct number of spectator tickets at checkout.

Can a non-participating sibling take part in the build-a-teddy event/other attractions on the day? Yes, children who wish to build a teddy, join the slime workshop or take part in any other attractions without going on the Bear Hunt will be able to pay to do so on the day.

Do I have to turn up at a specific time? Turn up any time between 10am and 3pm! We'll be setting off in groups every half hour or so, with last entry to the obstacle course at 3pm. The event tends to be busiest in the morning so turn up before 12 if you want to be part of a big group, or later in the day if your child would prefer a quieter, more intimate experience.

How long is the Bear Hunt experience likely to last? The whole We're Going on a Bear Hunt experience, including the challenge event, meet and greet with the Hft bear, build-a-teddy and slime workshop is likely to last at least an hour and a half. Make sure you leave plenty of time before or after your walk to explore the many attractions in the Fun Zone too!

Will my child need any special equipment? We recommend that children come along in wellies and old clothes that you don't mind getting wet, dirty or stained. Changing stations will be available so please bring along a change of clothes (and maybe a small towel!). If the weather is hot, please remember a sun hat and plenty of suncream.

Does my child have to fundraise? The money you have paid for your child's ticket covers the event running costs with a little left over to support Hft. You can help us even more by supporting your child to raise additional funds, all of which will go directly to help people with learning disabilities live the lives they really choose. This is a suggestion only

and no child will be refused entry or treated differently if they do not reach this target or if they choose not to fundraise.

Can adults attend without children? We regret that adults attending without children will not be admitted to the Bear Hunt event. However, we will be running dedicated sessions for adults with learning disabilities; for information about these sessions, please contact us.

Do I have to accompany my child(ren)? Yes. All children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event and this adult will be fully responsible for the child(ren) in their care. However, spectator areas and cheering points will be available for parents/carers who do not actually wish to take part in the challenge event itself! Adult tickets are just £3pp.

Is car parking available at the event? Yes, limited parking is available. If you are coming as part of a group, please show consideration for other guests and car share where possible.

What's the refund policy? As this is a charity event, we regret that we cannot issue refunds unless we are able to resell your ticket. If the event is cancelled for any reason, full refunds will be issued to all ticket holders.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? Please bring your ticket with you, either on your phone or printed out.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends? That's no problem; we recognise that arrangements sometimes change! As long as you have the right number of tickets, the booking name is not important.
