Description

ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP

This workshop gives opportunity to reflect on the pressures of parenting a child or young person with Special Educational Needs and / or Disabilities (SEND), share useful resources that can help to organise and prioritise demands. It builds resilience through sharing experiences and information about services.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Parents / carers of children and young people 0-18 years with any Special Educational Needs and / or Disability, who may feel overwhelmed with everything they have to juggle to support their child, feeling isolated or unable to have chance to sit down and work out what to do next, or what services are available that may help.

Please note the workshop is only available to people who pay council tax to Wakefield Council (or the child that they care for must live in the Wakefield Council district).

FEEDBACK FROM PREVIOUS WORKSHOPS

"It’s a weight off your shoulders to be able to share your own experiences with other people / carers who share similar experiences, difficulties, ups and downs as you.”

“Shown me the importance of looking after myself.”

“I will definitely use the resources provided to organise my priorities.”

FAQs

Can I bring my child or their sibling?

Unfortunately only people over the age of 18 years can attend the workshop as we have no childcare facilities or insurance cover for children under 18.

Can I have more than 1 place?

Yes - other family members such as Partners, Grandparents, Aunts & Uncles, siblings over the age of 18 years and family friends that care for the child are able to attend the workshop. A separate booking is required for each person attending.

I am a professional - can I attend?

The Eventbrite booking system is only for parent / carers - please do not use this Eventbrite booking system if you are a professional. Please contact Barnardo's WESAIL on 01924 304152 to discuss your requirements.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

New Brookhouse Club is 20 minutes' walk from Kirkgate Train station and just under 40 minutes walk from Westgate Train station. Wakefield Bus station is just under 2 miles away and buses that pass the venue leave every 6 minutes. Free car parking is available at the rear of the building and over the road at the Aagrah Indian Restaurant.

Do I need to bring anything to the event?

Yes – please bring your own lunch to this session as we will take a 30 minute lunch break and lunch is not provided. Refreshments will be available (tea, coffee, water, juice and biscuits). You do not need your booking confirmation as your name will be listed on the signing in sheet. Pens and paper are provided.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Please ring Barnardo's WESAIL on 01924 304152.

Can I update my registration information or cancel my place?

Yes - changes can be made on Eventbrite. Please note changes made less than 24 hours before the workshop may not be actioned, therefore please contact Barnardo's WESAIL on 01924 304152 if you need to change anything the day before the workshop or if you need support to make changes on Eventbrite.
