West End Spaces for People Empathy Walk Discussion
Event Information
About this Event
ABOUT THE PROJECT
In response to the COVID-19 Crisis this project looks to implement temporary measures on Perth Road that support Physical Distancing and make it safer for people who choose to walk, cycle or wheel for essential trips and exercise during Covid-19. This might include providing more space to safely pass each other, more space to meet outdoors, the use of parking or road space for businesses to increase trade and support safe queuing.
It is essential for this project that any measures are co-designed with businesses and residents. You may be familiar with the work we have done on Union Street which was the result of a series of co-design, collaborative workshops led by our partners at Service Design Academy. A short video about that project is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eeG05V3_Sw&feature=youtu.be
ABOUT THE SESSION
This session will be in respone to an empathy walk of the West End Perth Road area. An empathy walk is used to record your first-person experience. Before the session, you are asked to take a walk around Perth Road. Take notes about EVERYTHING. What do you see, hear, feel? What are you spending your time doing? What do you need to make your journey more safe and enjoyable? What are your worries and fears? Remember this has a Spaces for People focus, so once you return from your walk discard any notes that might not fit with the current challenge.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This workshop is for people who live, work and use services on the Perth Road, or immediate surrounding area. Supporting the success of businesses is a priority for the programme, so people who run, work in or represent Perth Road businesses are encouraged to attend.
BEFORE THE SESSION
Please take your empathy walk around the area as described above. There is also a padlet board where you can share your ideas as you walk, or store them after your walk: https://padlet.com/designdundee/WestEndSpacesForPeoplePadlet
