BACKGROUND

ACoRP’s Community Rail Awards recognise and reward the hard work and dedication of everybody involved in community rail. They also help ACoRP to understand what’s happening in community rail, its innovations and successes, so we can share good practice year-round.

The gala dinner on Thursday 3rd October is hosted by ACoRP and booking is available via their own website https://communityrail.org.uk

West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway are delighted to be hosting these national awards in the West Midlands and we are pleased to offer you a welcome package which includes a 5-day West Midlands Trains Travel Pass, along with this invitation to attend the following events, designed to welcome, entertain and inform and we also offer some suggestions for relaxation with fine weekend pursuits.

WEDNESDAY 2ND OCTOBER

A WARM BLACK COUNTRY WELCOME at The Black Country Museum

With local beer, a fish and chip supper and a glimpse into what it was like to live and work in one of the world's most heavily industrialised landscapes. We invite you to meet some of our railway people, business supporters and public sector partners.

A really warm welcome awaits in the Workers Institute and after a cool glass of Prosecco or a jug of local ale, Gregory’s Store, Doo’s the Chemist and the Anchor Maker’s House are open to explore as you make your way to Hobbs & Sons 1930's Fish & Chip Shop for a hearty West Midlands Supper

** Please Note that transport will be provided from Wolverhampton Station to the Black Country Museum and then following the Reception, on to Telford (for hotels) afterwards. Guests can leave their luggage on the bus during the Black Country Museum experience**

Great Malvern Station is on the Hereford to Worcester section of the Cotswold Line and retains most of its original Victorian design by the architect Edmund Wallace Elmslie, what about 'the sweetest train in Europe'? A memorable short journey on The Stourbridge Shuttle that runs every few minutes from Stourbridge Junction into town, and a lovely town it is!

SATURDAY 5TH OCTOBER

WHY NOT MAKE A WEEKEND OF IT?

Take the opportunity to visit some of the West Midlands fascinating destinations.

See Abraham Darby's newly repainted Iron Bridge, the first in the world and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site - at the historic riverside town of Ironbridge, just a few miles from our hotel doors

And over at Britain's second city; Birmingham an estimated 40% of British jewellery is made in the unique Jewellery Quarter, where you can visit specialist gem & precious metal retailers, heritage museums, independent art galleries and restaurants as well as our own city centre station of the same name, that is the first station in the UK to be adopted by a Business Improvement District.

And, why not visit a few of the stations in our region featured in Simon Jenkins ‘Britain’s Best 100 Railway Stations’? As the author says, railway stations are the locations of our hopeful beginnings.

We hope that you find this series of events will also provide some hopeful beginnings and we very much look forward to welcoming you to our region.
