Description

The West Midlands Egyptology Society invites you to their first conference at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery on the weekend of the 28th October 2016.

The conference title is, 'Looking to the Future: Engagements in Archaeology - Egypt and The Near East'

Hear from 10 academic speakers and 5 keynote lectures.

Keynotes include: 

- Aidan Dodson - Egypt Exploration Society

- Dr Jane Moon - Co-director of the Ur Region Archaeology Project 

- Alexander Johannes Edmonds - University of Tübingen

- Stephanie Woolham - Manchester Bio Bank

- Elisabeth Sawerthal - Palestine Exploration Fund

Opening speech from Adam Jaffer, Curator of World Cultures at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and closing speech by Dr Ellen McAdam, Director of Birmingham Museums Trust.

Assortment of Bloomer sandwiches, poppy seed bagels & flat breads with a variety of fillings, Piri Piri marinated chicken skewers, King prawns marinated in ginger & garlic cooked in tempura batter, Genoese cherry tomato focaccia topped with mozzarella, olives & oregano, Sweet potato fries, Chocolate brownies, Mini scones filled with strawberry preserve and cream, Freshly brewed ground coffee, selection of ethical teas, sparkling & still water

There will be a poster exhibition section with posters from academics from around the world relating to the conference.

There will also be a pop up shop selling Egyptology/Near Eastern/Archaeology books.

In addition there will be stalls from local societies from the West Midlands, advertising their programme of events and their societies.
