Join Dame Anne Evans, Dame Josephine Barstow, John Copley CBE, Dr. Patrick Carnegy, Humphrey Burton CBE and The Mastersingers’ artists to celebrate 400 years since the death of our greatest playwright.
on FRIDAY 23rd, at 8pm
Dr PATRICK CARNEGY is a leading academic on the work of Richard Wagner. He will be exploring the hidden parallels between Wagner’s characters and their antecedents in Shakespeare in the opening session.

JOHN COPLEY, CBE was discreetly but vitally involved in the world premiere of Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at this very venue back in June 1960 - so, it is wonedrful that he returns to the Jubilee Hall in 2016! John will be working with four of our developing artists on the Lovers’ Quarrel from Act 2 of the opera, and will then be contributing throughout the weekend. It is a privilege for us to be able to experience once again the work of this great director of international opera and enjoy his humour, effervescent personality and deep knowledge of the genre.
on SATURDAY 24th at 3pm and 8pm
On Saturday at 3pm The Mastersingers will present a Baroque recital by counter-tenor YANIV d’OR and The Voice Factor, a fun event (at 8pm) - our version of a popular TV series reimagined in a classical music mode. Come along and vote in the Audience Prize!
on SUNDAY 25th at 11am
In addition to this we are also very fortunate to have Dame ANNE EVANS and Dame JOSEPHINE BARSTOW, two of the greatest of British international sopranos, coaching in our continuing Masterclass Series. They will be working on arias from Macbeth, Otello, Falstaff and Götterdämmerung with three upcoming dramatic singers (Sunday at 11am).

HUMPHREY BURTON, CBE will be examining the creation of West Side Story, a celebrated collaboration between Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents. Humphrey has written an authoritative biography of Bernstein and he will introduce his fascinating BBC documentary on Sunday at 3pm.
