On 6 May, the West Yorkshire goes to the polls for the first time to choose a metro mayor with powers over transport, planning and skills. The elected metro mayor sets out and implements a strategic vision for the economy of the metro area, supporting people, firms and institutions.
As the campaign for the election gains momentum, Centre for Cities is hosting a hustings for candidates to set out their plans to respond to the pandemic and their recovery strategy for the region with particular reference to infrastructure, innovation and business. Confirmed candidates in the mayoral elections:
- Tracy Brabin MP, Labour Party candidate (invited)
- Cllr Andrew Cooper, Green Party candidate (confirmed)
- Bob Buxton, Yorkshire Party candidate (confirmed)
- Cllr Stewart Golton, Liberal Democrats candidate (confirmed)
- Cllr Matthew Robinson, Conservative Party candidate (confirmed)
