The Western Counties Regional Group Annual General Meeting followed by a presentation on the 250th Anniversary Celebration works to The Bristol Old Vic, Grade 1 listed Coopers' Hall and Foyer and similar Theatre Projects.
Richard Heath of Momentum will explore the Structural challenges in this remodelling of the Entrance Foyer which include a complicated timber diagrid over the foyer, alterations within a Grade I listed building and advice on intricate architectural metalwork detailing to expose structure, craftsmanship and the history of the building.
2016 represents an extraordinary moment in British theatre history as the oldest working theatre in the country will celebrate its 250th anniversary since the theatre first opened its doors in 1766. At that time , as they were technically illegal, the theatre had to disguise plays as concerts and was forced to hide its entrance from public sight. As part of the 250th Anniversary Celebrations, remodelling works have been planned to the Theatre’s Entrance . This will transform the front of house spaces, create a new studio theatre, modern bar and restaurant facilities. The works will also see the return of the Grade 1 listed Coopers’ Hall to its original 18th century use as a‘Grand Hall’ and the revealing of the Theatre Entrance to public view.
