Discover the Abbey’s awe-inspiring grand organ as Thomas Trotter pays tribute to Her Majesty The Queen in her Platinum Jubilee year

About this event

The Abbey’s magnificent five-manual Harrison & Harrison organ takes centre stage as the Summer Organ Festival returns from 12th July to 9th August 2022.

Hear Vincent Dubois, Thomas Trotter, James O’Donnell, Peter Holder and Matthew Jorysz bring the instrument to life at our Tuesday evening concerts, find out more about the ‘king of instruments’ at our Discovery Events, and enjoy free Sunday afternoon performances from the rising stars of the organ world at our Young Artist Platform recitals.

To close the 2022 festival, Thomas Trotter presents an entertaining selection of repertoire ranging from Handel to Danksagmüller, with music by César Franck in his 200th anniversary year and works honouring Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee.

Thomas Trotter is one of Britain's most widely admired musicians, reflected in Her Majesty The Queen awarding him The Queen's Medal for Music on St Cecilia's Day 2020. He has a special relationship with the City of Birmingham, having been appointed City Organist in 1983, and is also Organist of St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey. The excellence of his musicianship has long been recognised internationally in his musical partnerships, and alongside his regular recitals in Birmingham he performs widely throughout the USA and Europe.
