Learn about the huge range of rocks that built Westminster, from some of the world’s oldest rocks to Jurassic sea creatures. We will also hear some surprising stories about the history of geology.

The tour looks at the building stones of Westminster, exploring what the rocks are, looking at the fossils within them as well as crushed volcanic crystals and some of the world’s oldest rocks in plain sight.

We will also learn some surprising stories about the history of geology and the characters who shaped it.

The tour will visit the Geology Society and the Linnean Society.

We will also visit the site of the first Geology Museum and where the theory of evolution was first heard. Also hear about some of the surprising fossils uncovered as London was built.

Access - Some steps to enter the buildings, wheelchair access available would need advanced notice.

This walk is led by City of Westminster Guide Dr Stephen King.
