How to get to the wetlands?

Walthamstow Wetlands is serviced by the 123 and 230 buses from Tottenham Hale and Blackhorse Road tube station, or can be reached on foot (approx 10 minutes walking from both stations). If you are arriving by car, there is paid parking on-site (open 9.30am - 4pm).

Will refreshments be provided?

No, but our Engine House café will be open during the event.

Will the event go ahead even if the weather is bad?

Yes - unless it isn't safe to do so, we will proceed with the event.

What is the refund policy?

London Wildlife Trust will refund the full ticket value only (£15) if requested 7 days before the event.

What if I can't afford a ticket?

Wetlands Workshop: Introduction to Hedgehogs

Overview

Join us to learn about the UK's prickliest mammal and learn how to monitor them at home by building a hedgehog footprint tunnel.

Join us for a workshop learning all about one of our most recognisable and charismatic animals. Covered in spines and known to curl into a ball when threatened, hedgehogs can be spotted in parks and gardens across London. However, their population is currently experiencing a serious decline, particularly in urban areas, due to loss of greenery in gardens, impermeable fencing and increasing development.

In this workshop we'll delve into the lifecycle and ecology of hedgehogs and discuss ways we can help them at home. We'll also make hedgehog footprint tunnels, which you can take home or leave at the reserve to help us monitor their presence.

This event is aimed at adults aged 18+, but can be inclusive for young people aged 11 and above, who must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Further instructions will be sent prior to the event.

All proceeds from this event are invested into London Wildlife Trust’s wider nature recovery work across London.

Making footprint tunnels

Learn how to make a simple hedgehog footprint tunnel. You can either join us to place your tunnel in suitable place around the reserve to monitor for signs of hedgehogs or take it home to look for signs in your spaces.
