What Is The 'We’ve Got Your Back' Networking Event?

After the success of previous years, the Babbasa flagship youth-led event returns once again this Autumn.

‘We’ve Got Your Back’ will be a celebration of Bristol’s cultural diversity and act as a platform for aspiring young adults (16-25) from Bristol's inner-city communities to connect with local professionals and business leaders from a variety of industries and learn about different career options and pathways.

The special event will be hosted by Babbasa’s Youth Ambassadors and will involve a panel discussion on the theme of cultural identity and the chance to network with over 50 professionals across 12 key career sectors from film to finance. Guest speakers will include basketball player and motivational speaker, Daniel Edozie.

‘We’ve Got Your Back’ event is part of a wider Babbasa campaign to re-engage 400 young people from ethnic minority and low-income households adversely affected by the pandemic over the next 12 months.

The industries that will be present at the event will include:

Creative and Tech - These industries combine computers, designing and art, including digital product design, digital media or advertising and media made with a software-based, electronic and/or data-driven engine, as well as comms and marketing.

Culture and Arts - The arts encompass visual arts, literary arts and the performing arts. Jobs in this field could include writers, artists, musicians, poets, performers and presenters, people and cultural advisors or policy officers for example.

Business and Finance - Roles in this industry could include accountants, actuaries, auditors, bank managers, bookkeepers and business advisors amongst others.

Retail and Hospitality - This could involve customer service in a wide range of areas such as shops, leisure centres, restaurants, cafes and hotels.

Built Environment and Construction - Professionals in this industry may include roles such as engineers, construction workers and pioneers for sustainability, with related skills being planning and overseeing projects, practicality and logic.

Education and Public Sector - This involves social issues and support-related roles such as teachers, teaching assistants, support workers, charity workers and education officers.

FAQs

Who can attend the event? If you are a young person aged 16-25 from an under-represented background or a professional based in Bristol who would like to network with young people from diverse backgrounds to discuss opportunities, we would love for you to come along to this event!

What are my transport/parking options for getting to the event? - You can find out about travelling to the venue by bus on First Bus' website here. Parking including disabled parking available on Trenchyard Street.

Can I update my registration information? - Yes, please get in touch or log in to Eventbrite to change your details.

What is the refund policy? - Tickets are free, but if you need to cancel please let us know.

Will food and drinks be provided? - There will be a selection of food and refreshments. Vegetarian, vegan and halal options will be available.

Is there a dress code? - Optional - we would love for you to come in clothing that represents your culture or smart-casual.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? - We will have a register, however, we advise that you bring your ticket so we can check you in quickly.

Will the event be photographed/filmed? - Please note that there will be media coverage of the event which will solely be used for Babbasa purposes. If you do not wish to be filmed or photographed, please do let our Programme Lead know by emailing challengelead@byep.org.uk

PLEASE NOTE OUR COVID REGULATIONS:

Under current government guidance, there will be no official Covid precautions taken at this event. However, we do ask guests to abstain from the event if they have symptoms of COVID. These include:

A high temperature ( above 37.8 degrees C)

Loss or change to your sense of taste and/or smell.

A new and continuous cough

We also ask that all guests have either had their requisite vaccinations or perform a lateral flow test on the date of the event. If it is positive, then please do not come to the event. Risk of spreading COVID at this event is high due to the large number of guests in attendance and the venue being an enclosed space albeit there will be ventilation.

We advise wearing a face mask when moving through the venue, however this will not be enforced.
