Description

Wex Workshop: How to Shoot Historic Buildings with Martine Hamilton Knight
Monday 4th December, 10am-4.30pm. £99.
Bromley House Library, Angel Row, Nottingham. NG1 6HL.

This course is designed for confident DSLR/CSC users who would like to expand their skills shooting architecture and interiors, applying them to two distinctive listed buildings in Nottingham.

Based in the 1751 Georgian gem, Bromley House Library for the morning’s session and moving to Cecil Howitt’s 1929 masterpiece in neo-classicism, Martine Hamilton Knight, who is one of the UK’s foremost architectural photographers, explains how a pro tackles historic buildings to show the structure, form and lighting. You’ll be working on tripods, using long exposures, and styling images to create mood and atmosphere.

Martine enthuses and guides you through these two wonderful spaces with their period furnishings and in the case of Bromley House, collection of some 40,000 books housed over four floors. The building played a key role in the history of photography and we explore the attics where the trace of an 1840’s studio still exists.

The afternoon’s image making pushes you even further, with the need to control your colour temperature in certain spaces. You’ll have great fun and go home with some memorable shots and highly useful new skills from these fabulous locations.

Bromley House library is in the centre of Nottingham, just off the Old Market Square. There is no parking at the site, so using one of the Park & Ride sites is the best idea, there are numerous locations around the city where parking is free and its a hop on a bus or the tram which will drop you within feet of the door.

Bromley House is situated between the main public library and the Market Square, look for the Georgian door between Barnardo’s and a Newsagents. Ring the bell and tell them you’re meeting Martine Hamilton Knight.

Please arrive at 9.45 for a 10am start and the course finishes at around 4.30pm with approx a 1/2 hour break for lunch. We shall provide tea & coffee and there are numerous cafes in the city centre but you may want to bring a packed lunch instead.

Please bring your camera, all lenses, charged batteries & a tripod - (if you have one), if not we have plenty to borrow. A notebook & pen may also be useful should you wish to take notes.

Our day is spent in listed buildings and whilst The Council House has good access, however Bromley Library is spread over 4 floors and does NOT have a lift, so please advise us if you have mobility issues.

We look forward to seeing you there!
