As enforced lockdown starts to ease, many of us are looking at what happens next. Please join our discussion with other business leaders.

About this event

As Regional Director with Nigel Wright, my day job in recruitment at Nigel Wright Group over the last year has certainly been one of the most unusual years I’ve encountered in my career. I’ve spoken with people who have loved the opportunity to work from home (WFH) - and to those who hated every second of it, desperate to get back to their desk in their offices.

Business leaders have generally been understanding and supportive of their people and, where they could, allowed flexibility in hours and days to manage all the complications that this year has thrown our way. Nigel Wright’s consumer business clients, and especially those in food manufacturing have adapted to the challenges and continued to produce their products to keep us fed. My experience is that many of our clients are reporting higher productivity, high engagement levels from their workforce and more importantly, their people are happier in their roles.

As our enforced lockdown starts to transition back to the office (‘BTO’), a lot of business leaders are looking at what happens next and, in their planning, where and how their people will work. I believe that the questions of how & when they work are also significantly important too. We can’t ignore why we want to work in a certain way as it is how we have worked for most of our careers. So, can years of one way of working be changed after a year or will our ‘fear of missing out (FOMO) compel us back to our old ways?

There is undoubtedly a lot of discussion on the future of work. At Sphere Network, we want to open the discussion wider than where we will work to incorporate how and when people work. We also won’t forget to ask how we feel about our new working patterns. We will have business leaders around the table who have significantly changed their working practices and who will share how things have gone – what has or hasn’t worked well. We’ll also have business leaders who are wrestling with new target operating models and how to shape their company going forwards.

Please join the discussion with me and some of my fellow Board members at Sphere Network on Friday 21st May at 12:30. Sue Ormerod

Please note that we will take notes during this session and produce a short blog of our findings on the day. We never quote our discussants and won’t attribute comments to anyone without their permission.
