Here is some important information about this event:

The idea of women gathering together at this time of the month to receive knowledge and vision for the community is ancient. The inspiration to revive these Red Tents has come from many places including the book The Red Tent by Anna Diamante and the work of Alisa Starkweather. There are already many Red Tents in the UK and around the world. Our vision is to create a safe and powerful space to deepen our connection to the wisdom of woman hood. Exploring the feminine mysteries and cycles. Nurturing ourselves and our deepest potential. Celebrating sisterhood and life. Cultivating rest and retreat.

Coming to a Red Tent...

We do ask that people come on time and stay for the 2 hour duration that is indicated on the invitation.

We regret that latecomers will not be admitted once circle time has begun, because this disrupts the group.

What to expect at your first red tent…The activities on a given day differ, depending on what women in the group wish to receive or want to offer. All parts of you are welcome in this space. You are invited to ask for what you need, and bring anything you want to share in the space like a poem, song or story! Although the time is free-form to a certain extent, you can expect the following basic outline to the day. The circle is a sacred space where we have the opportunity to attend to our inner life and take time away from our identities in the outside world. As such we gently ask that circle time is not used for promotion of work.

We begin with an opening circle, a chance for you to become present with yourself and identify how you are feeling and what you feel you would like to happen. This initial sharing also serves to introduce us to one another. At each Red Tent we always establish a confidentiality agreement, so that all women present agree to keep what they hear of others stories and circumstances private. In the manner of traditional meetings throughout history, a talking object is passed from woman to woman to denote her turn to speak. You do not have to speak if you do not want to. When one woman is sharing she is not interrupted, advice is not given without request and what a woman shares about is not brought up again, unless invited by her.

When there is a feel for the energy of the group and what is needed, the gathering proceeds. Song, craft, movement, rest, meditation, massage, tea, and time to ask for support in your life if you need it, are all things that may unfold in the course of a Red Tent. A woman may offer to present a theme to stimulate some reflection and more open discussions. It is not a prescribed event, rather a time to be together as women and source from ourselves and our sharing. If you need to come and curl up in a corner and rest, that is as welcome as if you come with poetry, song and laughter. If you are going through a hard time, there is no need to mask this to present yourself as you may have to in the rest of your life. We hold the belief that we as women hold lots of wisdom, that our power is in our vulnerability and that we have an intuitive and powerful capacity to heal and support one another and ourselves. This space is open to deepen into this and offer a symbolic resting point in our month when we can take time for ourselves and give ourselves what we most deeply need. We hope that this gives you an idea of what to expect.

There is a Red Tent WGC on Facebook which you are welcome to join once you have attended circle https://www.facebook.com/groups/255330314848814/If you have any other questions please feel free to email.
