Event description

Description

Maintaining contact with family members in prison is extremely important for both the prisoner and the family. However, visiting prison can be an emotionally challenging experience, especially for children and young people, and other forms of contact are often very limited

Often activities and facilities are aimed at very young children, but what happens when they turn 6 or 16?

This event, Chaired by Bruce Adamson, Children and Young People's Commissioner for Scotland, will look at these gaps, and highlight:

  • what is already being done to fill them

  • what else can be done

  • how can we implement them across the Prison estate

Drawing on examples from across Scotland, and the wider UK, Families Outside will identify the support required for young people affected by imprisonment as they transition from early years to adulthood.
