What are Nuffield Research Placements?
Event Information
About this Event
Applications for 2021 Nuffield Research Placements (NRP) are now open! These enable 16+ students studying in the UK to undertake real-world science, technology, engineering, computing, mathematics or social science research with a STEM or STEM-related employer or research institution at no cost to themselves or their school. Placements consist of both online and on-site activities and allow students to:
- Develop STEM subject knowledge
- Develop research and data analysis skills
- Learn about higher education and career opportunities
- Enhance their UCAS applications
- Apply for a Gold CREST Award and Big Bang Competition
They specifically aim to support students who have lived in local authority care, are from a low income family, are entitled to free school meals or are the first in their immediate family (excluding older siblings) to participate in higher education.
In this webinar, STEM Learning colleagues Sharmila Metcalf and Megan Lawrence talk us through what these placements offer students, teachers and placement hosts, the eligibility criteria, the application process, the logistics of the placements and what will happen if in-person placements cannot take place next year.
If you are a teacher or parent of a student who might be interested in these placements or STEM professional who are interested in having your organisation host a placement, come along to find out more about the NRP programme and have your questions answered.
