Description

What can bibliometrics do for you?

Dr Miggie Pickton and Nick Dimmock

Bibliometrics, or the statistical analysis of published literature, has come to the fore recently as a method for assessing research performance. Citation analysis in particular is now used to rank articles, journals, authors and even universities.

So how can you make bibliometrics work for you? In this session we will show you how to use bibliometrics to evaluate the performance of other researchers and to increase the impact of your own work.

The session includes a practical element.

By the end of this session attendees will have the knowledge and skills to:

• Calculate and interpret a number of different bibliometric measures (including the journal impact factor, h-index and g-index)

• Find the most highly cited journals and authors in a specific subject area

• Develop a plan for increasing the impact of their own research

This workshop is open to early career researchers and any student currently registered on a research degree programme at the University of Northampton. Further information is available from Simone Apel (simone.apel@northampton.ac.uk; 01604 893418).
