Britain’s regional inequalities are straining the nation like never before. Contrasts in opportunity, prosperity, outcome and perception between north and south, urban and rural communities, London and the rest of Britain, burst into political life in the 2019 General Election, to the detriment of the Labour Party.

What role can the City of London play in addressing inequality? How can the financial services industry contribute to “levelling up” Britain? What should private-sector finance do to play a part in a progressive strategy for re-energising left-behind parts of the country?

We’ll be joined next Wednesday at 1pm by Olivia Blake, Labour MP for Sheffield Hallam, Jessie Joe Jacobs, the Labour candidate for Metro Mayor of the Tees Valley and Emma Reynolds, the former Labour MP now at TheCityUK, to discuss this.

Our conversation will explore the links between the Square Mile and the rest of the country; how to increase infrastructure spending; sustainable funding for SMEs and what the City must do to shake off the perception that it only serves a privileged few.
