Event description
Interintellect founder Anna Gát explores what we mean when we say "dating" and why this concept may be specific to Anglo-American culture

About this Event

The 20th century saw unprecedented demographic, economic and technological changes in society that in turn changed much about how we live as individuals too. The 21st century's digital revolutions have made even the 20th look atavistic... But some things seem not to have changed through it all: we humans are still social, craving love, connection, belonging, and comfort.

If for tens of thousands of years, in settled societies, couples used to be an economic unit, then what do we make of them today, in the era of overworked individualism and anxious mindfulness-seeking? What do we want when we go on a date - what is the other person supposed to bring to us? Can that really be given by one person alone? And what are we required to give - or give up - in response?

At this Interintellect Salon we will poke through the history of "dating", explore modern families, internet love, loneliness, and emotional safety - and, as always, share some personal stories.
