Speaker 1 Tom Bennet

In this session Tom will discuss the main features of efficient and effective school leadership that drives healthy behaviour cultures at a whole-school level. Topics covered will include:

Speaker 2 Dan Carter

In this session Dan Carter will be outlining practical strategies for establishing a positive behaviour culture and disruption free learning both at a whole school and classroom level. This session will put the effective development and implementation of behavioural norms, routines and pastoral systems/structures in an up to date, local context. This session is suitable for school staff at any level, but particularly those with an interest or involvement in improving behaviour and developing a positive school culture.

The tutors

Tom Bennett is the Department for Education's 'Behaviour Czar' and advises on behaviour policy. He coaches and trains teachers and schools in behaviour policies, classroom practices and teacher training. He is the author of five books on teacher training, including his best selling Running the Room (2020). In 2015 he was long listed as one of the world's top teachers in the GEMS Global Teacher Prize, and in the same year made the Huffington Post's 'Top ten Global Bloggers' list. His TES online resources have been viewed over 1,200,000 times. In his spare time he writes about education, and runs researchED, which he founded in 2013. He currently leads the DfE’s Behaviour Hubs program, a £10 million project that aims to build a network of school-to-school support for behaviour leadership.

The tutors

Dan Carter is the Principal of Thetford Academy and has recently led the school to a good Ofsted judgement under the new framework. Dan has previously worked as Vice Principal at two other Inspiration Trust schools, Cromer Academy, and Great Yarmouth Charter Academy. In 2 years at Thetford Academy Dan has overseen significant improvements in attainment, progress, behaviour and attendance and has led the school to two successive good judgements by Ofsted. Dan has extensive experience of successfully leading schools in communities with a high level of deprivation.
