Event description

Description

In the early noughties, the hydrogen economy was touted as the next energy global revolution. Then it disappeared from view. What happened? Has hydrogen been superseded by battery cars?

In this lecture, we will take a journey along the hydrogen hype cycle, from the peak in 2003 to a trough in 2010, and up to the present. We’ll explore how fuel cell vehicles have developed over the last 15 years, and whether we will ever drive one – we might even test one during the lecture! Finally, we’ll consider whether hydrogen heating could replace natural gas in the coming decades.
