Statistics show that 1 in 3 women will be a victim of domestic violence in their lifetime, although men too can be victims. There are 10,000 forced marriages in the UK every year and it is estimated that 2.5 million people are in forced labour at any given time. Given these figures it is likely that within every workforce there are employees who are victims of such abuse and also perpetrators of abuse.
This informative and interactive session is aimed at highlighting the issues around domestic abuse, forced marriage and human trafficking with a view to helping HR identify who may be a victim, understanding the victim’s needs and how HR can best support employees who are victims of such abuse. We also look at what role HR can play in helping perpetrators change their behaviour.
We have two presenters:
Raj Holness, Director of Breaking the Silence and West Midlands Woman of the Year 2015 and West Midlands Most Inspirational Woman 2015. Breaking the Silence is a social enterprise set up to raise awareness of issues around domestic abuse, forced marriages and human (sex) trafficking. www.btsuk.org
Victoria Duddles, Associate solicitor in Weightmans’ HR Rely team.
The session will look at the following:
o How to identify who may be a victim of such abuse
o Understanding the victim’s needs
o Steps HR can put in place to support victims of abuse and their colleagues
