After our successful Spring series, the Centre for Energy Policy are delighted to announce our Autumn 2017 series of Energy Conversations.

The Energy Conversations address difficult questions around evolving UK and Scottish Energy strategy, in a relaxed, open manner. The event will be followed by a drinks reception, where we invite you to carry on the conversation.

Registration opens at 5:30pm, with the event starting at 6:00pm.

Energy Conversation 1: What impact might Brexit have on energy supply and policy in Scotland and the UK? (chaired by Alf Young)

In PM Theresa May’s letter to Donald Tusk notifying the UK’s intention to leave the EU, she stressed the importance of economic cooperation and the need to minimise disruption in the network industries and other key areas of the economy. Yet, the fate of the energy sector has been little explored.

Speakers include: Maurice Golden, MSP; Evan Williams, Head of Scotland Office, Newington Communications.

Biographies

Alf Young: Alf is a distinguished commentator on Scottish industrial, economics and public policy issues. For over 23 years he was Economics Editor, Policy Editor and then Deputy Editor of the Herald newspaper. He has an intimate knowledge of Scotland’s industrial, economic and political landscape. He is the author of ‘Forty Turbulent Years 2015'.

Maurice Golden MSP: Maurice is a Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Scottish Conservatives and was elected in 2016. He is Chief Whip and Business Manager as well as the spokesperson for the Low Carbon Economy. Prior to being elected, Maurice led the Circular Economy Programme for Zero Waste Scotland having joined the organisation in 2011. He has fifteen years’ experience working in the waste and energy sectors previously working for Ofgem and Consumer Focus. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce and a Chartered Waste Manager.

Evan Williams: Evan has almost 30 years' experience in public policy and economic development. He has worked with local authorities, the Scottish, Welsh and UK Governments as well as the European Union and US Department of the Interior. He has supported planning and development proposals in energy, transport, housing and regeneration as well as developing business cases and economic impact studies. Evan was a Special Advisor in the Scottish Parliament, with responsibility for policy and manifesto development. Evan’s experience includes five years as Chief Economist at the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, giving him a deep insight into regulation and environmental policy.
