Event description

Description

This event, which is part of the Cambridge Festival of Ideas, is a collaboration between the Department of Public Health and Primary Care and Dying for Life.

It will offer the opportunity for each of us to explore what we consider to be a good death. The three hour session will be facilitated to interweave hearing from the speakers alongside plenty of opportunity for participants to share their own ideas, experiences, and feelings around these issues.

Speakers:
Dr Stephen Barclay is a General Practitioner, Honorary Consultant at Arthur Rank Hospice and University Senior Lecturer in Department of Public Health and Primary Care. Stephen has worked in Palliative and End of Life Care research over the last 20 years. His research focuses on Palliative and End of Life Care in Primary Care, with a particular interest in General Practitioner and District Nurse provision of care, end of life care conversations in cancer and non-cancer illness, decision-making concerning treatment cessation in advanced disease and medical student education in Palliative Care.

Dr Elizabeth Fistein is a Psychiatrist and Ethics & Law Co-ordinator at the School of Clinical Medicine. She is involved in research into the ways in which different mental states may affect our ability to make healthcare decisions, and how doctors should respond to these difficulties.

The session will be facilitated by Johnnie Moore. Johnnie is a facilitator based in Cambridge who has worked with organisations around the world, and spends much of his time training other facilitators. He's also the founder of Unhurried Conversations, which are held regularly here in Cambridge and now in other cities as well.

The venue has full wheelchair access and an IR transmitter for use with a personal hearing loop.

This event is for adults only. It is not a drop in event.
