Inspired by the Manchester International Festival (MIF) commission of HOME1947 MIF are working with the amazing wearemcr to host 4 introductory workshops on film and photography

The aim of these workshops are to develop an interest or refresh your basic skills and possibly submit entries as part of our HOME1947 competition.

Artist

Local artist Fraser Cottrell will run both the film and photography workshops and brings a wealth of experience that spans over 10 years in creative and digital media.

Photography Workshop

This photowalk workshop will give attendees an opportunity to learn, develop and test basic photography skills whilst meeting other like-minded amateur photographers.

Exploring Manchester’s Town Hall and Central Library (primarily outside) attendees will be given small tasks to complete. This will in turn allow them to cover the basics of photography in an engaging, practical environment.

Film Workshop

The workshop will aim to teach the basics of filmmaking. From how to compose an image & choosing your frame to some pointers on editing your footage.

The workshop gives attendees an overview of filmmaking with the aim of equipping them with the basic skills & knowledge needed to begin creating their own film.

Sunday 30th April, 3:30pm - 5pm

BOOKING: Free admission. Everyone is welcome, but advance booking is essential. Further details will be provided once you have booked.

IMPORTANT: If you have booked for the workshops but are unable to attend, please email myfestival@mif.co.uk to let us know at least 24 hours in advance. We can then reallocate your space to someone else, ensuring that as many people as possible can learn from the workshops.

WORKSHOPS: The film workshops at MIF will be in a classroom format. If you have specific seating or access requirements please contact the organiser.

NOTES: Please ensure you dress comfortably to suit the outdoor photography workshop and any cold or wet weather conditions we may experience. All workshops will be filmed and photographed.


What is Home? workshops are a part of Manchester International Festival’s My Festival outreach and community activity which offers communities and creative people from all backgrounds, ages and corners of the city to forge closer connections with MIF. HOME1947 reflects on the experiences of people who left their homes during the Partition of British India in 1947, the largest mass migration ever witnessed. HOME1947 will premiere at The Lowry in Salford from Sat 1 to Sun 9 July 2017.
