What is Natural Beauty? - Symposium

2021 is the 50th year of the Wye Valley AONB and the 70th anniversary year of the Lake District National Park. In this landmark year, this online symposium will explore perceptions of natural beauty, the challenges of caring for the natural environment, and how values and aesthetics shape the way we relate to place.

Hosted by the UK's Centre for National Parks and Protected Areas, this event is led by the PLACE Collective with Wye Valley AONB Partnership and the Lake District National Park Authority.

The symposium will be introduced by Kate Humble, TV presenter, writer and co-founder of 'Humble by Nature' rural skills centre in the Wye Valley. The afternoon programme includes presentations and provocations from experts in many disciplines and offers a space for networking and conversations. Presenters include professionals in the fields of visual art, literature, earth science, geography, protected area management, sustainability, performance, farming, and more.

In the spirit of bringing many voices together, an event report will be complied to include input from all delegates, including opinions shared during live Q&A sessions and in small break-out rooms. An Artist-In-Residence will also be making a live interpretive record of proceedings.
