Description

Engagement and Impact are key terms in the growing impact agenda. Now with engagement and impact included in ERA 2018 and the ERA pilot underway and the HEFCE consultation underway for REEF 2020, understanding what impact is and how it can be articulated is fundamental for successful submissions.

This one-hour intensive session is aimed at supporting those new to research impact. Using our experience of writing impact case studies, delivering training on impact to hundreds of researchers and research administrators, and having developed the VV-Impact Tracker tool, the training we offer is comprehensive and up-to-date with reporting guidelines.

The webinar will answer the following questions:

  • Why is impact important?

  • What is wider research impact, beyond citations?

  • What are UK and Australian funder definitions of impact?

  • How can impact be identified and written about?

Delivered in a convenient and concise format, the presentation will leave you better equipped to identify impact in research.

Who should attend?

· Researchers looking to submit impact case studies or impact narratives to funders

· REF Managers, Impact Officers, Research Support Officers

· Heads of academic departments seeking to understand the impact in their departments

Since 2010, Vertigo Ventures has been working with organisations to identify, capture and report the impact of their research projects to funders to secure funding. Vertigo Ventures worked with leading UK universities to prepare for the UK REF 2014 and the Australia team has been working with Australian and New Zealand researchers on engagement.

In 2014, Vertigo Ventures launched VV-Impact Tracker with UK institutions to help researchers and higher education institutions to identify, store, validate, and organise impact information and evidence from funded and non-funded projects. VV-Impact Tracker provides a taxonomy and systematic workflow that contextualises research project information with impact data to provide a compelling narrative about research use, reach and significance, and produces clean data for reporting purposes.

By the end of the webinar attendees will:

  • Know how impact fits within the broader higher education sector agenda

  • Feel comfortable with key impact terminology

  • Have a clear understanding of what engagement is

  • Have a clear understanding of what research impact is

  • Be able to identify engagement and impact in research.

Once you have registered for the webinar and subject to eligibility, dial-in details will be sent to your email two days ahead of the webinar.
