This event is being fully funded under the Trailblazer Programme and is for parent/carer's of Primary Children within Gloucestershire. The session will be delivered by Satveer Nijjar (www.satveernijjar.com).

We know that young people's mental health is being affected by the pandemic. It is estimated 1 in 8 young people self-harm in any one year. Self-harm is not just an issue that affects secondary students, more and more younger students are presenting with self-harm behaviours.

Whether you are a parent/carer of a young person who is self-harming or not, this is a session for all. Maybe you struggle to understand why someone may self-harm, or how to best support them if faced with it? Do you want to broaden your understanding and build your confidence on the topic?

This online session will be delivered through Zoom and cover:

improve your understanding of self-harm behaviours
look at what leads someone to self-harm
what functions the person gets from the behaviour
how best to broach suspected self-harm
what to say / not to say to someone who is self-harming
alternative strategies to self-harm you can offer

This is Satveer's 2hr awareness raising session that is usually delivered in schools / colleges across the UK. It is consistently met with excellent feedback however due to Covid-19 the sessions are currently being delivered online.
