shado x Decolonial Centre presents: What is the difference between colonialism and imperialism? A teach in with Energy Embargo for Palestine.

This online teach in will be led by Energy Embargo for Palestine, and will guide us through what what imperialism is, how it differs from colonialism, historical and current global examples and how we can work to dismantle it.

Energy Embargo for Palestine are an anti-imperialist organisation based in Britain seeking to disrupt energy flow for the isolation of Zionism.

The aims of the session is to:

  • Provide greater access to knowledge around imperialism
  • Provide a space for political education embedded in methodology of shared + communal learning
  • Provide a safe, non-judgemental space for learning

The teach in will involve a talk followed by interactive activities. All levels of knowledge are welcome.

About Decolonial Centre: We are a political education platform committed to spreading anti-colonial and decolonial perspectives on history, social theory, and current affairs. Operating from the historical epicentre of colonialism in Britain, the Decolonial Centre (DcC) is global majority-led and a project of the Pluto Educational Trust. We raise awareness on how many of the systemic inequalities that are present in Britain and around the world are rooted in colonialism. Our vision is to help inspire a new intergenerational cohort of activists that pushes for systems change. To that end, we equip activists with the anti-colonial and decolonial education necessary for a just transition.

About shado: shado is a lived experience-led community of artists, writers and organisers united in the fight for social justice. shado provides a space for those across different fields, who are currently working in isolation, to co-exist. We work with a community of over 300 artists, writers, researchers and activists in over 60 countries around the world to spotlight and celebrate necessary and innovative stories. shado exists to disrupt, diversify and decolonise the current arts landscape through amplifying the voices of people on the frontline of social change, and connecting individuals and organisations which might otherwise have been working in silos. We believe collaboration across sectors is central to building out the capacity of our current movements.
