About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Follow in the footsteps of a Victorian public health officer and their 21st century equivalent to discover the causes of early death, disease and disablement.

From pollution to pests, poverty to poor sanitation, obesity to smoking.

The causes of deadly diseases and chronic ill-health are many and complex.

Though the 19th and 20th centuries saw sewage systems built, better housing provided and incomes and standards of living rise, in the 21st century more people die of illnesses born of behaviours than contagious infections.

What killed us then and kills us now?

Find out on this exciting tour through Camden, one of London’s most diverse districts, boasting beautiful green spaces, polluted urban highways, academic elites and pockets of desperate poverty.

The walk commences outside the medicinal garden of Royal College of Physicians in St Andrews Place, London NW1 4LE and lasts around 2½ hours*

Tickets costs £16 per person.

* Tour does not include a visit to the interior of the Royal College of Physicians.
