Event description

Description

With the governance act passed last year, and the first trade union nominees sitting on the governing bodies of their institutions, the months ahead promise to be exciting times in Scottish higher education.

Over the coming months and years we will see elected chairs of university courts, elected by all staff and students, in all Scottish higher education institutions. UCU has played an important role in these reforms and this conference enables us to continue the debate about key issues in the future for higher education, including funding, widening access and promoting academic freedom. The conference, titled What Next for Scottish Higher Education, will be a timely opportunity to reflect on where we are, and where those who work and study in our universities should push for change in the future.

The conference will hear from Professor John Holmwood from the Campaign for the Public University, Professor Terence Karran, author of Academic Freedom in the UK, NUS Scotland’s Jodie Waite, and Lucy Hunter Blackburn. We will also have a senior Scottish Government representative speaking on the day.

The conference starts with registration at 9.30am for a 10.00am start at Strathclyde University's Technology and Innovation Centre. A full agenda will be sent to registered delegates before the conference.

If you have any dietary requirements, access/facilitation requirements please e-mail UCU Scotland at scotland@ucu.org.uk
