Event description

Description

The second meeting of the Sheffield Chapter of What Next? will take place in collaboration with Foodhall on 10 September and is free for anybody to attend. Join us for a communal meal and genuinely open discussion, whether or not you were able to attend the previous meeting.

The topic of our second meeting is Mental Health and Wellbeing for Artists and those working in the Creative Industries.

To kick off this meeting’s conversation, we’ll be joined by:

Lisa Maltby

Lisa Maltby is an independent designer and illustrator and has worked in the creative industry for over ten years, commissioned by clients such as Chatsworth House, English Heritage, National Trust and Penguin Random House. Her honest approach has led her to write articles and give talks on the effectiveness of visual communication and the importance of empowering creatives to place value on their work and wellbeing. Lisa is passionate about problem solving, whether that’s developing solutions for clients, improving processes or supporting community.

Christina Gougouli

Christina works full time as a dance movement psychotherapist in Sheffield Mind, under two projects; one aimed at people over 50s (Age Better Project) and one aimed at refugees and asylum seekers (Creative Therapies Project). Having already done her placement in Sheffield Mind, Christina had the chance to see how dance movement psychotherapy can transform people’s lives and provide a safe container for the body to unravel past experiences. Chritsina has also worked as a dance movement psychotherapist trainee at SYEDA (South Yorkshire Eating Disorders Association), Chilypep (Children’s and Young People’s Empowerment project) and volunteered at Sheffield Children’s Hospital as an outpatient play volunteer. Her background is in Psychology and Modern Dance Teaching, which led her to make the decision to come to the UK to do her MA in Dance Movement Psychotherapy at the University of Derby.

What Next? is a national movement bringing together arts and cultural organisations from across the UK, to articulate, champion and strengthen the role of culture in our society. The Sheffield chapter is an opportunity to add your voice to the local and national conversation and debate. You can read more about the project on the What Next? website: www.whatnextculture.co.uk

Each What Next? chapter feeds into the national work of the movement through a series of local meetings at which members of the creative industries (and anyone with an interest in and passion for the arts) can come together to share, debate and take collective action on issues facing the local and national cultural sector.

As well as the cultural sector, as a movement What Next? initiates conversations and unlikely alliances with community leaders, politicians, funders, academics and businesses and uses the findings of those conversations to lobby government and create real change. This is your chance to be a part of that conversation and to improve the cultural sector in both Sheffield and the UK.
