Event description

Description

Our sense of reward motivates us and is essential for survival, so when the system malfunctions, it can lead to big problems. Hear Ray Dolan, Wolfram Schultz and Peter Dayan, winners of this year’s Brain Prize, discuss their ground-breaking work on how the brain recognises and processes reward with Claudia Hammond, the host of BBC's 'All in the mind'.

Claudia Hammond is an award-winning broadcaster, writer and lecturer. She regularly presents the All in the Mind and Mind Changers series on BBC Radio 4.

Ray Dolan, Wolfram Schultz and Peter Dayan won the 2017 Lundbeck Foundation Brain Prize for their multidisciplinary analysis of brain mechanisms that link learning to reward, which has far-reaching implications for the understanding of human behaviour, including disorders of decision-making in conditions such as gambling, drug addiction, compulsive behaviour and schizophrenia.

Discounted tickets are available to Members of the Ri. Find out more about how to join our community.

The doors will open at approximately 6.30pm, with a prompt start at 7.00pm. There will be time for questions after the talk. Latecomers will be admitted to the gallery.

By booking to attend events at the Royal Institution, you confirm that you have read and agree to the Ri's event terms and conditions.
