Event description

Description

Over half of the world’s population now live in cities, and this will rise to two thirds by 2050. How will cities – their services, infrastructure, governance, natural capital – meet the demands of so many? The stakes are high, and we must take the time right now to take a look at how cities need to adapt.

IEMA Futures, the IEMA network for young Environment and Sustainability change agents, is hosting this Sustainable Cities event at Leeds University, which is open to all young people interested in building a sustainable future.

The event will open with presentations from our keynote speakers - Andy Gouldson, Professor of Environmental Policy at Leeds University and Sandra Norval, MD of Catalicity Ltd – who will introduce the challenges and opportunities we face to make the spaces we live in sustainable. This will be followed by an opportunity to work in groups with new contacts, where each team get to critique a building block for a sustainable city, including waste, food, and energy. At the end we’ll regroup to present our collaborative solutions. After the main session, we’ll take part in the Yorkshire & Humber Network’s social so you can make connections with Environment & Sustainability professionals over a beer and a slice of pizza.
