It is not unusual for organisations to use the terms coaching and mentoring interchangeably, and sometimes what some people think is coaching is actually mentoring and vice-versa, which can be to the detriment of the person on the receiving end.
In this highly practical workshop John Jackson, FCIPD and former Vice-Chair of the West London CIPD Mentoring Scheme and Ian Wilson, FCIPD and manager of the Humber Branch Mentoring Scheme will take the audience on a journey looking at the good, the bad and the ugly risks of not understanding the differences between coaching and mentoring. The audience will:
Participate in a ‘forum theatre’ coaching scenario to look at the skills.
Explore the situations in which coaching and mentoring are most effective.
Be introduced to a simple technique that generates valuable discussion, and
Have a go at fishbowl coaching.
The workshop will provide great ideas that can be used individually by participants or can be taken back to be incorporated into workplace schemes.
The workshop is open to members and guests.
Coffee and bacon butties from 8:30
