Description

Chaired by award-winning journalist and broadcaster Michael Crick, What's Happening in Contemporary Western Politics? is a Political Studies Association event bringing together academics, journalists, and policy-makers which seeks to unravel the momentous events that have taken place over the past 18 months.

At the core of this discussion lies the question of whether this really is a big populist moment, and what we actually mean by populism. And, whatever has been happening recently, what does it actually mean for how Western politics moves forward over the next few years?

Programme:

6.30-7.30pm

- Introduction
- What is Populism as a concept?
- Our experts give their take on American, British, French, Italian and German elections
- To what extent can we really say that this is a populist moment? And what do these elections all mean?

7.30-8pm

- Roundtable questions to the panel from the audience

8-9pm

- Networking reception with wine and canapés
