What's In Store: A Tour of Crafts Council Collections Store – Textiles

By Crafts Council

Overview

Explore our textiles collection behind the scenes with a hands-on look at how women continue to subvert this historically gendered medium.

We welcome you inside our newly open Crafts Council Collections Store for a personal experience led by our very own collection team. We'll take you on a journey to learn how Crafts Council Collection came to be, see the tools we use and how we care for the works in the store. You will have the chance to touch and feel crafted items made by renowned practitioners in our Handling Collection.

For this edition of the Collections Store tour, we will explore our incredible textiles collection. Focusing on slow repair and mindfulness, rebellious knitting, and female innovation, come and see standout makers including Freddie Robins, Celia Pym, Faye Toogood and Ann Sutton. Come behind the scenes for a hands-on experience with amazing craft, diverse techniques and learn how we care for the collection.

This is the first time since the Crafts Council was established in 1972 that we have made the Collections Store open and available to the public. We are very excited to invite you to explore our collection with us, to unveil the tangible and intangible beauty of craft.

Duration of the tour: Approx. 50 minutes.
