IIMA Alumni London, in association with the alumni of St. Stephen's and Lady Shriram College are delighted to invite you to a talk by Dr S.Y. Quraishi (Former Chief Election Commissioner of India) on the 6th of July 2017. Dr. Quraishi will elaborate on what he believes is stopping the largest democracy from being the greatest.

Schedule: 

6:30 - 6:50 pm: Arrival

7:25 - 7:30 pm: Vote of Thanks

Profile

Dr. S.Y. Quraishi

Dr. S.Y. Quraishi joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1971 and after holding several strategic and key positions, rose to become the 17th Chief Election Commissioner of India (from July 2010 till June 2012). As the Chief Election Commissioner, he introduced many innovative electoral reforms, established an Expenditure Control Division and a Voter Education Division in the commission.

He is a member of the Board of Advisors of International IDEA (Institute of Democracy and Electoral Assistance) Stockholm. He was also a member of the Advisory Committee to assist and advise the Global Commission on Elections, Democracy and Security, headed by Mr Kofi Annan.

Dr. S.Y. Quraishi figured in the Indian Express List of 100 Most Powerful Indians of 2011 and again in 2012. He was awarded the Honorary Fellowship of the National Indian Students and Alumni Union UK in May 2016.

Entry is only for pre-registered ticket holders. There are no on-the-spot registrations.

The ticket cost will cover for the restaurant appetisers and a soft drink. Other drinks need to be paid  for separately at the venue.
