Come along to our 1st ever "What's the Future..." panel discussion on the topic of 3D Printing technology (aka Additive Manufacturing). We will be joined by a fantastic panel of experts on the subject of 3D Printing technology, its applications and limitations, and the philosophical and ethical considerations of this technology.

  • Dr Rebecca Davnall: Lecturer in Philosophy, University of Liverpool (Web)


The event will be fairly informal and engaging with the audience, taking place in Blackwells Bookshop on the University campus. Places are limited to 60 people so please book early and if your not able to attend please do cancel your place.

The event is open to all ages and you dont need to have a background in Engineering or 3D printing to come along.



Further Details of the Panel

Dr Kate Black is a Lecturer in the Centre for Materials and Structures (Liverpool). Her research interests are primarily focused on the development of novel functional materials, using inkjet printing, for the manufacture of electronic and optoelectronic devices. Her main area of expertise is in the development of novel Reactive Organo-Metallic inks (ROM) which are particle-free and can be exploited to produce a wide a variety of functional materials, such as conductors, insulators and semiconductors.

Sophie Jones is the General Manager of Added Scientific, a company specialising in the commercial applications of 3D Printing technology. She has a Masters in Innovative Manufacturing Engineering

Dr Candice Majewski is a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Sheffield). She has been involved in Additive Manufacturing since 2000, initially working with metal-based substances and more recently polymer-based processes.

Dr Rebecca Davnall is a Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy (Liverpool). She tecahers on the undergraduate module "Philosophy of the Future" which introduces students to the philosophical implications of foreseeable future technological innovations and examines the relevance of metaphysical and ethical considerations to future technological and scientific developments.
