Event description

Description

On Saturday 19th October, come and join hundreds of others supporting Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice on a sponsored night-time walk.

  • Registration opens: 6pm
  • Walk starts: 7pm

Starting from Leeds Beckett Headingley Campus, choose to take on either the 5km or 10km routes. Both routes take you through starlit Leeds streets, and all participants have the option to pass through the hospice grounds.

Remember lost loved ones

Both routes will pass through Wheatfields Hospice; while there, you can visit our Starlight Garden and dedicate a message to loved ones.

Team or individual entry

Sign up individually or select 'Team' entry, name your team and then sign up/invite friends, family and colleagues to hike with you! There is no limit on how many members your team can have so don't be shy.

Whether you’re walking in memory of a loved one or simply taking on the challenge, be part of this special event raising money for local hospice care in Leeds.

FAQs

What time does the walk start?

The walk will start from Leeds Beckett University Campus at 7.00pm. Registration will open at 6.00pm. There’ll be lots of pre-walk entertainment for you to enjoy while you get warmed up.

Where does the route go?

There is a choice of a 5km or 10km route. Both follow public footpaths through Headingley before going through Adel on the 10km route, while the 5km stays in and around Headingley. Both routes will involve a stop at Wheatfields Hospice for a visit to the Starlight Garden.

Are children allowed to walk?

Yes, children are permitted to walk but must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times. Everyone taking part in the walk must complete a registration form.

Please note that, as the route is on public footpaths, bikes and scooters are not permitted. Children's buggies and wheelchairs are permitted.

What about dogs?

Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted in the start/finish venue so we are unable to allow dogs on the walk.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please make sure you have your ticket, which you can download or print off when you’ve completed your registration. We will register people by surname on the evening of the walk.

Please also come dressed appropriately for the weather, especially as it will be the end of October, and wear comfortable and well worn in walking shoes. Although the route will be lit with street lighting, it is also advisable to bring a torch with you.

Will any food/drink be provided?

Yes, water will be provided at the start of the walk and during the route.

There will be snacks available to purchase, with some food at the end.

We do advise, however, that you bring some additional water with you.

Do I need to raise any sponsorship to take part?

Although we don’t stipulate a minimum amount of sponsorship to be raised, this is a charity event to raise funds for Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice so we do encourage people to raise at least £140, which could pay for a hospice nurse for a day, and we hope that everyone will raise as much as they can.

You’ll be able to set up an online fundraising page after you’ve completed the registration form. We can also help with providing paper sponsor forms, collection tins and any other fundraising items.

If you would like any help with your fundraising, just get in touch with the Wheatfields fundraising team and they will be delighted to help.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Please email wheatfields.fundraising@sueryder.org or call 0113 203 3317 and ask to speak to Michelle Darbyshire.

What's the refund policy?

If you are unable to attend the event for any reason, your registration fee is non-refundable.

We will only cancel the event if absolutely necessary for the safety of participants. We will aim to reschedule the event first, but if the event has to be cancelled completely, we will offer refunds.

Any refund request must be submitted in writing within 5 working days of notification of cancellation.

Please visit the Sue Ryder website to read our full terms and conditions.
