Is your dog in the early stages of recovery from a spinal injury, or are they part of the "wheely crew" and already zipping around in wheels? Then come and join Lola and the gang for a "wheel around the park".

The walk will be a short 15 minute loop around Markeaton Park. There is a path which is nice and flat and wheelchair accessible (for both dogs and people). After a leisurely stroll, we encourage you and your pets to relax in the park afterwards to get to know others on the same journey as you and your beloved pet, so do remember to bring your favourite snacks and a flask.

You are very welcome to bring your beloved dog in a stroller if you feel the walk may be too much for them.

This event aims to support and build a community among disabled dog owners and provides a supportive group for pet owners to connect with others in similar situations.

FAQs

My dog isn’t disabled and hasn’t got long-term mobility challenges, can we still come along? The event is aimed at supporting owners with pets with disabilities and to offer a social network to lean on when they are struggling. You are very welcome to bring your disabled dogs and 4 legged siblings along to the day if you would like.

I would like to take part, but my dog may not be able to walk too far, what do you advise? You are very welcome to bring your beloved dog in a stroller if the walk may be too much for them.

Where is the meeting point? Please meet at The Cafe in Markeaton Park, Markeaton Lane, Derby DE22 4AA at 11am on Monday 1st September. We also have another Wheels in the Park at 10.30am on Sunday 24th August. Please register separately for this event.

Will there be water available for my dog to drink? We do advise that you bring your own water in a suitable container.

Are there amenities at the park? Yes, there are public toilets and a cafe to purchase refreshments from. More information can be found via https://www.inderby.org.uk/parks/derbys-parks-and-open-spaces/markeaton-park/.

My dog is a little nervous around other dogs, what do you advise? The park is very spacious however, we cannot predict how busy it may be on the day.

Is the event weather-dependent? Given the weather can often be unpredictable, we do hope for mild weather. In extreme cases of heat or rain, we may look to postpone the event. If that is the case, we will inform you via Eventbrite.

My pet isn’t registered with Scarsdale Vets or has undergone treatment at Pride Veterinary Referrals, can we still attend the walk? Yes, of course. The walk is open to everyone who wants to join.

Is there onsite parking at Markeaton Park? Yes, parking is available at the park for a fee which can be paid via cash or phone only. What time will the event finish? The short route will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Pet owners are welcome to stay and relax in the park afterwards for a picnic that we invite you to bring along with you.
