About this event

This 3-hour interactive online workshop will explore the impact of the death of a child on a family and build confidence and skills in communicating with, and supporting, families bereaved of a child.

Learning outcomes

You will:

  • Explore the impact on the family unit when a child dies.
  • Recognise physical and emotional reactions to grief.
  • Be aware of the incidence of child death and what research tells us about its impact.
  • Gain an understanding of what parents may need when faced with the death of their child, and increased confidence in offering support appropriate to their needs.
  • Explore the considerations around communicating with a dying child.
  • Relate theories of grief to the experiences of the bereaved parents you encounter.
  • Develop your self-awareness in relation to loss, grief and bereavement, and the impact of a child’s death on you as a professional.
  • Consider ways to support yourself and your colleagues.
  • Gain information about Child Bereavement UK, other similar support organisations and resources.
