Event description
Symposium on the book "When Did We See You Naked?"

About this event

Did the stripping of Jesus, reported on multiple occasions by the gospel writers, amount to a form of sexual abuse? And if so, what difference does this make for survivors of modern abuse? This is the topic of a new book When Did We See You Naked? Jesus as a Victim of Sexual Abuse, edited by Jayme Reaves, David Tombs and Rocio Figueroa (SCM, 2021).

In this symposium two of the editors will outline some of the ideas presented in the book, followed by responses from Dr Valerie Hobbs, linguist and advocate for the marginalized, and Dr Elaine Storkey, sociologist, theologian and broadcaster, and author of Scars Across Humanity. The event will be hosted by the Centre for the Study of Bible and Violence, and hosted by its director Helen Paynter, author of The Bible Doesn't Tell Me So: Why you don't have to submit to domestic abuse and coercive control.

There will then be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions.

The event will be hosted on Zoom, and a link will be sent to those who book shortly before it starts.
