Event description
Services supporting children and families need to do more with less. A day of innovation, exploration and discussion of how it can be done.

About this Event

Imagine if the leading voices that speak on behalf of children talked to each other. Imagine if they listened.

Children and families need professionals, individually and together, to be offering help in effective, innovative and creative ways. This is never more true than for children in care, on the edge of care, or who are living every day at risk of harm. Creativity and innovation come from fresh thinking, open-minded awareness, knowledge and inspiration. This day gives space and time for dialogue between different people and organisations invested in supporting families in crisis; social workers, lawyers, psychologists, therapists, family support workers, researchers, doctors, social justice campaigners. A group of people with world-class expertise in their own field will have the opportunity to interview, and then be interviewed by, another person who shares the goals of protecting children but who comes from a different background. It is out of the dialogue that we can all identify how to move forward, and how to make the most of what we have to offer our most vulnerable and at-risk children and families.

The day will be chaired by His Honour Judge Stephen Wildblood and we are delighted that Professor Karen Broadhurst and Louise Tickle will be contributing to the discussions.

Somerset County Cricket Ground is in Taunton, a short walk from the railway station and ten minutes from J25 of the M5. Whilst we encourage people to attend using public transport, there are a number of pay and display car parks close by. There will be an hour break for lunch where you will be able to use one of the many local coffee shops and cafes nearby.

There is disabled access throughout the building. Tea, coffee and refreshments (including vegan and gluten-free options) will be available throughout the day.

This event is run as a not for profit enterprise to promote multi-disciplinary dialogue and service development. There are a number of tickets set aside for those who do not have access to funds for either a professional or a student/trainee ticket. These are available on a first come, first served basis; please just select the ‘pay what you can option’.
