About this event

Burnout among surgeons is increasingly recognised as a critical issue affecting not only individual wellbeing but also patient safety, team dynamics, and the sustainability of surgical careers. This one-day national meeting will bring together surgeons, trainees, and experts in mental health and medical education to address this challenge head-on.

Through a combination of keynote lectures, interactive discussions, and practical workshops, participants will explore:

  • Prevention: Recognising early warning signs, fostering resilience, and creating supportive surgical environments.
  • Diagnosis: Understanding how burnout manifests in surgeons at different stages of their careers.
  • Management: Evidence-based strategies for recovery, institutional responsibility, and cultural change.

The event is open to UK surgical trainees and consultants, with CPD points available. Delegates will benefit from insights shared by a national faculty of speakers, drawing on lived experience, current evidence, and best practice models.

This is a free event, but spaces are limited.

Course conveners: Mr P. Chitsabesan, Mr A. Krishnan, Dr A. Abbas
