Voluntary Action South West Surrey Volunteer Management Programme

VASWS is running a series of Volunteer Management Workshops, which can be booked individually or taken together as a course. Together the workshops will provide a comprehensive and practical programme to support you in managing your volunteer workforce.

These workshops are suitable for anyone new to volunteer management or who wants to refresh their knowledge.

By the end of the three sessions you will have learned:

  • Different methods of recruiting and retaining volunteers
  • How to write and implement a volunteer policy
  • What policies and procedures a successful volunteer management programme should have in place
  • How to keep your volunteer workforce motivated
  • How to confidently manage difficult situations

1. Recruiting & Retaining Volunteers

MONDAY 23RD APRIL, 10.00am-3.30pm

GODALMING BAPTIST CHURCH (lunch included)

This informal and collaborative session will cover the key processes of recruiting and retaining volunteers. In particular it will cover:

  • Recruitment success stories
  • Understanding volunteer motivation
  • Creating great roles that people want to do
  • Keeping your volunteers!
  • Keeping your volunteers safe (core policies)

2. Managing Volunteers

MONDAY 14th MAY, 10.00am-3.30pm

GODALMING BAPTIST CHURCH (lunch included)

This session will cover the day to day practicalities of managing a volunteer team. It will look at the principles of inspiring and motivating your volunteers and will cover:

  • Getting it right from the start
    • Supporting & supervising
    • Policies and procedures
    • Keeping your volunteers motivated
    • Rewarding & appreciating your team
    • Creating an inclusive environment
    • How to say no!

3. When Things go Wrong – Volunteer Challenges

MONDAY 4TH JUNE, 10.00am-3.30pm

GODALMING BAPTIST CHURCH (lunch included)

Even the most successful volunteer programmes will encounter some difficulties now and again. This workshop will look at how to prevent them and minimise their impact. This will include:

  • Understanding volunteer rights
  • The importance of inclusion
  • Anticipating the pitfalls
  • Coping strategies
  • How your colleagues can get involved
  • Exit strategies

On completion of these three modules you will come away with a certificate in Volunteer Management from Voluntary Action South West Surrey.

Price - £50 per Workshop or £120, if all three booked together
