Summary:

Whistleblowers have, for years, made the headlines and we have all seen and read about the evolving legal landscape. In this interactive session, we will provide you with an update on the current legal position and, perhaps more importantly, arm you with valuable strategies for avoiding the pitfalls and navigating the complex legal situation.

The session will cover:

  • The components of a whistleblowing claim
  • Who is protected?
  • What is protected?
  • Update on recent case law
  • Interactive whistleblowing case study
  • Coping strategies

Objectives:

  • To recognise whistleblowing
  • To understand how to handle a whistleblowing complaint
  • To evaluate risk and adopt appropriate strategies for dealing with whistleblowing issues

Outcome:

To be more confident when handling potential whistleblowing issues within your organisation.

Facilitator:

Udara Ranasinghe heads up the health employment team at DAC Beachcroft LLP. Udara is recognised as a market leading employment lawyer and has significant experience of advising public and private sector organisations on all aspects of employment law. Udara has extensive experience of advising on whistleblowing matters in the public sector – he contributed to the Francis Freedom to Speak Up Review and has advised clients on the internal handling of very high profile whistleblowing matters and subsequent litigation.

In the event that you’re not able to attend, please let us know within 5 working days of the event or we will charge a £100 cancellation fee regardless of the reason given for cancellation or non-attendance. We know that there are many good reasons why people are not able to attend HPMA London events they have booked on, however the cost per attendee at an HPMA London Academy can be as much as £200. We use the income generated by cancellation fees to deliver our events programme in the next financial year. If you want to appeal against a cancellation fee, please contact the team for a copy of the cancellation fee appeal form which will need to be signed by your line manager and returned within 14 days of the event.

There are 35 places on this event. We want to ensure that all member organisations have access to our events. If an event is overbooked and the maximum attendance has been reached from a particular trust, the events team may need to cancel any further places that are booked. The team will then email individuals who have booked after the maximum number has been reached.
